The P.S.S. (Packless Sealing System) shaft seal is a
mechanical face seal that replaces the packing gland and is installed by
builders and the USCG as standard equipment. The dripless operation of the
P.S.S. eliminates needless bilge pumping, minimizes corrosion,
and reduces maintenance by ending the need to adjust packing or replace shaft
from damage due to the packing gland. Need to know both shaft and stern tube
(shaft log)
diameters to order.
Available in a range of shaft sizes from 7/8" to 2"
Made of corrosion free, engineered
polymers. It is compatible with all materials
common to marine construction. Beveled glands force packing material against the shaft as
it is tightened. Will not scar, bind, or freeze on the shaft, or in any
way contribute
to shaft misalignment.
Available in 2 sizes: 1" shaft diameter and 1 1/8" shaft
diameter
Pollution-Free Naval Brass Marine
Bearings Brass sleeve with rubber oil resistant shaft. The
clean bearing that cushions the shaft, installs in minutes and lasts for
years Morse Bearings are engineered to meet the toughest service
requirements in corrosive and abrasive marine or industrial applications. The
fluted rubber bearings surface will outlast hard surface bearings by more than
10 times. All materials meet U.S. Navy specs MIL-B-17901A
CLII. Bearing Selection: Normal design
practice is to select a bearing with a length equal to 4 times the shaft
diameter. It may be acceptable to deviate from this rule when
application load requirements permit the use of shorter bearing lengths. *
Slimline Bearing. Bearing area is: Bearing I.D.
(shaft diameter) multiply x bearing length. Loading capability
is determined by: Multiplying that bearing area x 35
psi. Example: (RAY)- 3" shaft dia.
x 12" length 36 sq." bearing area
x
35 psi 1,260 lbs.

Drip-Less packing is a unique, clay-like material
that molds to the inside of the stuffing box, creating a
permanently-lubricated seal. Internally lubricated with low-friction
compounds, it requires no water for lubrication. Properly
installed, it completely seals off the shaft log to outside water.
Unlike average flax packing which breaks down due to heat and contact with water, Drip-Less packing wears slowly
and
lasts several seasons.
