To properly determine the correct cable length use the following directions.
1. Check to see if your existing cable is marked with a cast in part number. Many cables have this marking. The last 2 or 3 digits should indicate the length. For example it marked with 12 (12 feet) or 144 (144 inches).
2. Measure existing cable: Measure the jacketed part of the cable (the red or black part), add 18" to this length and then round up to the nearest foot. That is the length you would need to purchase.
3. Measure the boat: Measure from the center point of the steering wheel helm location over to the rail, then back along the rail (or the inteded cable route) to the stern of the boat, then measure across the stern to the center point of your engine where the cable will attach to the motor. Add up the total of that entire length add 6" and round up to the nearest foot. This is the length cable you would need.
